A Boy in Bonded Labor Speaks for Freedom of a Million Children

Generations of children in Pakistan along with India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and other Asian nations have been in a modern day slavery known as Bonded Labor. Even though this has been illegal since 1992, it’s another law in Pakistan that has no teeth. Our organization, ‘Freedom Cry’, has been working primarily with getting education, our ‘Freedom School System’ to the children in the brick yards who are up to this point robbed of education.
The parents have no means of getting their kids out and miles away to a government school. And besides, they are under pressure from Brick Masters and managers to make a one thousand brick quota per 10-12 hour day for a couple US bucks, barely enough for a family to eat.
So the best we can do in the long run is hire precious teachers willing to enter these man forsaken places and educate the children. Once the child begins soaking in the knowledge and learning to read and write in their native tongue along with English he and she become aware that their existence was not meant to be beasts of burden to the majority religion. They have dreams now to become doctors, teachers, soldiers, seamstresses, advocates and the lots of dreams is long.
At the Lahore Press Club we had a Freedom Conference where journalists were invited and came and reported on and interviewed 5 of our ( brick yard) Freedom School children who addressed the conscience of the nation. #bondedlabor
