Nearly 300 women and children in Haiti have been kidnapped in the first six months of 2023, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reported Monday. The UNICEF report also found that kidnapping numbers in 2023 are three times higher than they were in 2021. “"In most instances, children and women are forcefully taken by armed groups and used for financial or tactical gains,” the report read, “The victims who manage to return home grapple with deep physical and psychological scars, possibly for many years."
