Mysterious formation in Canadian Lake

Pavilion Lake B.C is a beautiful lake in the Interior of British Columbia which is where these scuba diver friends went for a weekend getaway to see and experience everything they had heard about some " amazing formations that NASA has done research on" .
Roughly 4-1/2 drive from Vancouver ,north east, this lake is a beautiful camping and water activity location, along with a great scuba diving opportunity. In 2005 this research program received support from the Canadian Space Agency,The project also successfully acquired a National Geographic Research and Exploration Grant in 2005, and NASA continues to provide logistics, and education and public outreach .
Fossil microbialites represent some of the earliest remnants of life on ancient Earth, and were common from ~2.5 billion to 540 million years ago.
Research continues in Pavillion Lake and one other nearby lake.
