After one month of silence on its foreign minister, Beijing officially announced the removal of Qin Gang and that Qin’s predecessor, Wang Yi, will replace him. This announcement concluded the first half of the “missing minister” drama, confirming my suspicion that Qin is a victim of CCP’s internal political struggles. It foretells a turbulent time in Sino-US relations as the leadership of China’s foreign affairs team lacks American experience. The second half of the drama may be more exciting.
