In the early hours of Sunday, August 6, a

magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolted Pingyuan

county in Dezhou, Shandong province, causing

significant damage, according to the Local

Earthquake Networks Center. The quake, which

struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, caught

residents off guard and prompted immediate

responses from emergency services.
