So I've had the DJI Action 2 macro lens for about 5 months. I bought it after the camera came out and then I never used it because before I got the macro lens in hand I actually bought the iPhone 13 Pro which has a macro lens on it. But, I wanted to do a comparison video and talk about some of the good points and bad points of each. First, one of the good things about the macro lens of the DJI Action 2 is that it is magnetic and connects to the front of the camera and attaches and detaches very simply. Also because the camera does not auto focus you simply have to move the camera closer or further away from your subject in order to get it in focus which makes for very nice push and pulls. The next nice thing about this lens is the price. At the time that I bought the lens it was $79 so it's a very inexpensive option if you're looking for a macro lens. Also another thing I like about it is I've noticed that there is very little flaring when shooting towards the sun. All right let's talk about the iPhone and what I like and don't like about it's macro lens. One thang I like is it does have auto focus so you can start off further away from your subject with it in focus and in move closer the problem with that is once you get too close to the subject there's a very abrupt shift from the standard lens to the macro lens and it looks bad and it actually messes up the composition of your shot. Another thing that I don't like about the iPhone's macro lens is there is a lot of flaring if you're shooting towards the sun, so much so that it can actually ruin your shot. One thing that I do like about the iPhone's macro lens is that it's always with you because it's already apart of the iPhone's camera array.
Both cameras have pretty good colors with their macro lenses however I would have to say I prefer the colors of the DJ Action 2 just a little bit more than the iPhone however the iPhone does seem to get just a tad bit closer than the Action 2.
