Today we're traveling to new Port Richey. last week we visited East Elfers Cemetery and this week we're visiting West Elfers Cemetery and as a bonus, we'll be visiting a friend of mine who recently passed away. Scott Huntley ( long time friend ) was laid to rest at Heartwood Preserve and conservation Cemetery. I had no idea what I was about to encounter. Natural burials in a state park ? I have to admit I didn't even know this was a thing. The departed are not embalmed and are laid to rest in the preserve & their survivors have the option for their remains to be placed in either a biodegradable casket or a shroud , they are then buried 6 ft underground with only a mound and small oval plaque to mark the burial. It was a beautiful park and a touching sentiment to give the body back to nature. R.I.P. Scott Huntley, may your soul finally be free.
