This week, we begin a new sermon series where we look at the journey of discipleship. Today, we'll begin this journey by learning how our faith is impacted as we grow through discipleship.
2 Thes.2:3 –“Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction.”
2 Tim.3:1 – “You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times.”
2 Tim.3:13 – “But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived.”
Being a Disciple: Enduring in the End Times:
The Armor of the Believer
Soberness
Breastplate of Faith and Love
Helmet of Hope in Salvation
1 Pet.1:3-4 – “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.”
The Admonition of the Believer
Our Promise
1 Thes.1:10 – “And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God’s Son from heaven—Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.”
John 5:24 – ““I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.”
Rom.8:1 – “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus..”
Our Provision
2 Thes.2:13-14 – “As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first[d] to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. 14 He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The Advocate of the Believer
His Sacrifice
1 Pet.2:24 – “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”

1 Peter 3:18 – “Christ suffered[d] for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.[e]”
His Security
Rom.14:8-9 – “If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.”
The Advantage of the Believer
Our Comfort
1 Thes.4:13 – “And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died[f] so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.”
1 Cor. 15:19-20 – “And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world. 20 But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.”
