Joanna was just 25 in August 1990 when she escaped the Gulf War from Qatar and landed a job as a post grad working for the UAE Royal Family in Knightsbridge, London - carefully selected as a Trilingual PA from many applicants sent by a top PA Agency.

Eager to be an asset to UAE Royals, Joanna did her best to excel at everything that was asked of her, considering her intended career was to become a diplomat for the UK Diplomatic Corps. Her boss, Ahmed Obaidly was UAE Royals’ top Diplomat in London since 1960s.

This was when the horror began...

Having just escaped the Gulf War & feeling highly vulnerable, Joanna assumed she was entirely safe working for the UAE royal family & did as she was asked. An immediate perk of her job was health insurance & a week into her job she was taken to get a medical exam that included gynecological STD testing. She was tricked by her recruiter, an Office Manager called Monika and it was only in hindsight she could see the STD testing was an order from her employers to ensure she was 'clean' & able to be used for sexual abuse & rape by their germaphobic top diplomat.

She was asked to travel to Cannes and Paris as part of her PA role because Holbein Anstalt managed UAE Royals’ property both in UK and abroad. She was also made to sign 2 NDAs, the first immediately after the internal medical exam, the second accompanied by legal & death threats

This story escalates to show how 'trafficking' isn't always what we think. Our hope is that listening to this story will help others identify red flags in their own lives or lives of their children / loved ones who may find themselves in a similar situation.

Also, Netlix The Crown is releasing Series 5 (1990s) depicting Princess Diana with Al Fayed who is portrayed in a positive light whilst ignoring survivors of his sexually predatory nature.
