17th In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I The Effect of False Prophets - 2 Peter 2:1-2
* A. Working with Satan enables their outsized impact
* 1. The satanic lies receive full support from the establishment in our land
* 2. This is why the road is broad and heavily traveled on the way to hell - Matthew 7:13
* B. Those false prophets will cause many to blasphemy God’s Word
* 1. The anti Christian blasphemy “laws” from the followers of Mohamed 
* 2. False teachers posing as Christians bring disrepute to the work of the true teachers and preachers of the Gospel
* 3. The great falling away - 2 Thessalonians 2:3

II. The Motive Underlying the False Prophets - 2 Peter 2:3
* A. The destructive work of covetousness - Exodus 20:17
* 1. The heart desiring what is unlawful will always lead the soul into sinful attitudes and actions
* 2. It reveals a lack of trust in the goodness of God; this is felled Eve in the Garden of Eden
* B. The politics of covetousness 
* 1. Those who desire tyrannical power over others will use covetousness as a manipulative and destructive tool
* a. They create class envy in order to conduct legalized plunder
* b. They exploit both classes they produce
* 2. The reality of poverty - John 12:8
* a. There are multiple causes of poverty a few of which are due to the rich violating God’s Law
* b. Laziness - Proverbs 6:6-11
* c. Indebtedness - Proverbs 22:7
* C. The false prophet’s judgment is on its way
