Russian grain deal Explained: Russia And Ukraine has been involved in a deal brokered by Turkey to allow both countries to export their grain in an attempt to prevent food insecurity.
Russia pulled out of the deal just before the Kerch bridge was attacked. Russia use the attack on the Kerch bridge as a reason to devastate Ukrainian ports and grain silos, taking Ukrainian grain out of the game. First two have been quite intentional. Russia is using food as a weapon in a hybrid war, who is demonstrated in the Russia Africa summit 2023. African nations will receive free Russian grain. African nations had $23 billion of debt relief extended to them. When the next vote in the United Nations comes along, however, Russia may expect them to vote with Russia.
The Russian grain deal exit was just a start of a new phase of hybrid warfare. Inflation will rise, and the poorest nations will be caught in the middle, forced to choose between grain and dependence on Russia. If the Russian-Ukrainian grain deal is ever revived, it will only be after Russia has done all that it can to prevent Ukraine from becoming a significant player in the grain market again.
