Nutrition with Judy podcast

Question: are carbs needed for athletic performance?
-1960s technique to measure muscle glycogen
-high performance deteriorated when
glycogen was depleted
-glycogen made from glucose...
-carbs make glucose, so
KINDERGARTEN SCIENCE:
-high anaerobic, power, strength
performance will improve
with CARBS
"All resulting from one test capability"

No one questioned: are carbs NEEDED for glycogen?
-NOT THE CASE
-single 'evidence' that glucose is needed for glycogen stores
2016: Dr Jeff Volek study:
Ultramarathon runners: 2 groups
1-keto-adapted runners
2-high-carb adapted runners
Prior to study measured muscle glycogen
-SAME IN BOTH GROUPS
Result: after running marathon: NO DIFFERENCE IN GLYCOGEN
AFTER: nutrient replenishment--NO DIFFERENCE IN GLYCOGEN
-Proof: keto-adapted athletes maintain glycogen stores
