Israeli Reservists Start Missing Duty, Threatening Military Unity and Readiness

Col. Nissim Yogev, a combat flight navigator with 25 years of service in the Israeli Air Force, decided to stop reporting for volunteer reserve duty after the government’s move to limit the power of the Supreme Court.

He and other reservists believe this undermines Israel’s liberal democracy and breaks the social contract they’ve upheld.

Thousands of reservists have suspended their service in protest, impacting the military’s operations, including pilot training, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s coalition defends the legislation, aiming to restore a balance of power among government branches.
