Nico and Shane are joined by Ben Gagliano to discuss the new Florida Middle School Standards for teaching slavery. They highlight a particular benchmark that says, "Examine the various duties and trades performed by slaves (e.g., agricultural
work, painting, carpentry, tailoring, domestic service, blacksmithing,
transportation)." and " Instruction includes how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit."

This serves as a launching pad for a greater discussion about education, the origins of the Civil War, race Relations in America (Tuskegee Experiments, Margaret Sanger, Etc), and where all of this is going. The questions of "How did we get here?" and "Where are we going?" are addressed.

Ben is a Veteran, Civil War Historian, Conservationist, Hunter, Philosopher, Writer, and Thinker. His greatest accomplishment is a human being, his summit; Nico.
