The novel gained immense popularity, inspiring a successful stage play that opened in London in 1905 and ran for more than 2,000 performances. Due to its widespread acclaim, Baroness Orczy continued to chronicle the adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel in sequels like "The Elusive Pimpernel" (1908) and "The Way of the Scarlet Pimpernel" (1933).
