The collapse of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's marriage with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has made headlines all over the world but Canadians were hardly surprised. That's because in Canada, 40-50% of all marriages end in divorce – an issue that is not talked about enough. Trudeau's marital collapse is symbolic of a larger problem in this country – the collapse of the institution of marriage.

Marriage rates in Canada have been dropping. Polling reveals that the majority of Canadians now see marriage as "unnecessary" and to go with it, fertility rates have plunged in this country to record lows. The collapse of this institution has created long lasting problems for this country and political leaders don't seem to have the solutions.
