It is very simple in its logic, say todays date is May 12th it will go back to that date last year and the year before and the year before and work out the percentage gain or loss for each of the three years. The future is then projected in a different colour based on the year. You can ignore plots if three are not moving in the same direction as it indicates zero evidence of a reliable annual cycle.
