► 10. The Life of Story & The Story of Life - One of the first pictures in the first issue of Life was, naturally, a baby. It was a newborn named George Story. A few days after Life announced it would cease monthly publication in 2000…George Story died.
► 9. The Eastern World, it is Explodin' - Some 260,000 people survived the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II—Tsutomu Yamaguchi (1916-2010) was one of the very few who endured the horror of BOTH.
► 8. Rebel With A Warning - Alec Guinness warned 24-year-old James Dean that if he drove his new Porsche 550 Spyder car, he would be k*lled. The following Friday, his prediction came true after Dean was speeding and collided with a Ford Tudor sedan, killing him on impact.
► 7. The Deadly Double - Two weeks before the December 7 attack, the New Yorker published an ad promoting a mysterious board game called “The Deadly Double,” which featured people in an air raid shelter playing dice—two of which were numbered 12 and 7—and included words like “alert” and “warning.” After Pearl Harbor, people saw the ad in a different light, convinced it was a coded message to Japanese spies warning them of the impending assault. However, the conspiracy theory was quickly debunked when it was discovered that Roger Paul Craig had indeed invented such a game and created the ads, with the numbers on the dice amounting to coincidence. Despite its notoriety, the game never sold well, and Craig ironically ended up working for the Office of Strategic Services—the U.S.’s intelligence agency during World War II.
► 6. Unlucky Guess - In a shocking turn of events, Wikipedia foreshadowed Chris Benoit's incident a good 12 hours before the police raided the Benoit household. How on earth did someone know Nancy was d*ad before the police discovered the bodies? But alas, when the police tracked the IP address of the wiki user, it showed up as a local teenager who lived in the same city as WWE HQ. Perhaps a coincidence, but conspiracy theorists will forever use this as a vital piece of information in their allegations.
► 5. Crosscode Puzzle - In 1944, headmaster and crossword compiler Leonard Dawe published vital military codewords in a Telegraph puzzle. The codenames related to the D-Day plans appeared as solutions in crosswords in the British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, which the British Secret Services initially suspected to be a form of espionage. Will we ever find the answers, or even some fresh clues, to this classic crossword mystery?
► 4. Bound by Fate - Less than a year before John Wilkes Booth k*lled Abraham Lincoln, Booth’s brother Edwin saved the life of Lincoln’s eldest son, Robert.
► 3. Two Dam Deaths - On December 20, 1922, J.G. Tierney was the first person to die while constructing the Hoover Dam. He drowned while surveying for an ideal spot for the dam. The last person to die during the project was J.G.'s son, Patrick, on the exact same day 13 years later.
► 2. Had To Get Away - Jason Cairns-Lawrence and his now-ex-wife Jenny have been labeled as the ‘world’s unluckiest couple’ having been caught up in New York on 9/11, the London bombings of 7 July 2005, and Mumbai’s November 2008 terrorist attacks.
► 1. From Beginning to END - In 2002 two seventy-year-old Finnish twins both died in separate accidents on the same road within two hours of each other.
