Date – Thursday, August 3rd, 2023 – St. Erlembald

1. St. Erlembald was a Milanese Lord and fearless knight of Christ who lived in the 11th century. He came from a wealthy and influential family and held a position of great relevance in Milan.

2. Despite his opulent lifestyle, Erlembald's heart was turned towards God, and he considered entering monastic life after returning from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

3. St. Arialdo, a deacon, counseled Erlembald not to become a monk but to remain a lay knight and fight for the Church, which was suffering from simony and impurity in the clergy.

4. Pope Alexander II supported this decision and gave Erlembald a standard to combat the enemies of Christ and defend the Church, even to the shedding of his blood if necessary.

5. Erlembald was known for his charitable acts, caring for the poor and the sick, and defending the interests of the Church in Milan.

6. For ten years, he fought against the spread of simony and corruption, often clashing with Archbishop Guido of Velate, who protected these abuses.

7. Erlembald's actions and efforts led to his excommunication of Archbishop Guido, but the latter continued to create unrest and resistance against him.

8. Together with St. Arialdo, Erlembald faced opposition from those who supported the corrupted Prelates and heretical practices, leading to violent confrontations.

9. Erlembald's commitment to the cause of the Church and the Pope continued throughout his life, and he became a symbol of strength and bravery in the fight against corruption and heresy.

10. St. Erlembald ultimately died fighting for the Catholic Faith and the Pope, leaving a legacy of courage and determination in defending the Church and combating evil in his time.

St. Erlembald, pray for us!
