Definitely one of the more unique fashion statements I've seen in my life, the 'facekini' which ostensibly originated in China, has caught the attention of the world. For most, it's somewhat of a joke, but for those who wear them, they are ardent proponents of the nifty (and slightly scary-looking) contraption and will continue to do so. But, why??? Why on earth would anyone want to wear such a thing? In this video I'll explain why Chinese girls and Chinese women wear these.
I will also discuss China's preference for fair skin, or white skin - how it originated and how it because a beauty standard for Chinese society.
