Breaking News, The Spiders Have Returned To Get Vengeance
Watch the horrifying moment when a man whacks a wolf spider with a broom to kill it and HUNDREDS of babies explode out of its belly. Huge Wolf spider was found in Hallett Cove, South Australia by Danny Ford who wrote “We got a bit of a surprise when I squashed it with a broom as hundreds of baby spiders came crawling out of the mother.” Arachnophobia anyone, this is my worst nightmare!
Wolf spiders carry a nursery on their abdomen and with so many little spiderlings it’s a good thing she has eight eyes, four on the top row, and two rows with two eyes each beneath that, to watch over them.
When spiderlings hatch they climb on the mother's abdomen and spend their first days there before dispersing, so those babies didn’t crawl out of the mother spider, they climbed off of her.
After mating, the female wolf spider produces a silk mat into which she deposits around 100 eggs. The silk is then rolled into a protective ball which she attaches to her abdomen and proceeds to carry it around with her until the eggs hatch.
After hatching, the babies crawl onto the mother's back and remain there until their fat reserves have been used up and they need to start finding their own food, which may take several months. That is unless the female spider is cracked a few times over the head with a broom.
You know those nightmares where you kill a spider and suddenly dozens more appear? That nightmare is real for these people.
