Live on Tuesday, August 1, as the full 'Sturgeon' supermoon shines over the Temple of Poseidon in Greece.

The full moon’s name derives from the freshwater fish, which the Native Americans believed to be more abundant in the Great Lakes during the month of August.

Supermoons occur when the full moon is within 90 percent of the perigee; the point in its orbit where the moon is closest to Earth. This phenomenon causes the moon to appear bigger and brighter than usual.
