Curse of the Deer Flies - Installing Height Ruse Pole While Under Active Attack

Old school trick recognized as effective today is a Ruse Pole (my term) that takes advantage of deer flies' behavior of attacking the highest point of prey. Doesn't kill 'em but draws them off head and face. Supposedly.
