It must be said that pointing to founding forefathers as being MASONS does not help. So, keep in mind that all generations evolve different perceptions and have very different outlooks. For instance, George Washington and those of his generation, Masons or not, looked much more toward God and the Bible for core inspiration, than those who came along a hundred and two hundred years
later. Allow me to give you another, more personal example; My dad was a 32º mason. He never showed any interest in becoming a 33º chief mason. I strongly suspect he had his own "secret" [society] reason for not wishing to do so. He was a man of faith, in his own imperfect manner.

The "Rebekah Lodge" > "Eastern Stars" are the female branch. For the male branch, I heard "Odd Fellows" were somehow associated. The "Knights of Columbus" are simply the Catholic version, which I know little else about.
The masons, therefore, the Protestant version, all one big, although somewhat rather conflicting, order, in my own mind. Many "secret societies", going by their own, group names, within one confused (internally competing) "CLUB"
for power brokering and influence peddling. They all sleep in the same bed..

The true meaning of "Illuminati", therefore, is an entire group of greedy, power hungry people who share "secret (hidden/occluded or occult) knowledge", thinking themselves brighter and wiser, making them fools. One body with many members, in other words, just like any other single-minded group, each member having their own function for accomplishing one purpose, or ultimate goal.

Fate is mortal, destiny is chosen.
