When Alexander asked Diogenes why he was looking at a pile of human bones, Diogenes replied, "I am searching for the bones of your father, the king, but cannot distinguish them from those of a slave."

Once, when asked to name the most beautiful of all things Diogenes said,
"Free speech. or full expression."
