How to handle disrespectful questions

The first thing to look at is whether the person realizes the question is disrespectful or not. If they don't know it's disrespectful then you can kindly let them know that it's not an appropriate question and you're not going to answer it.

If they do know it's disrespectful, then you really need to stand firm in letting them know that you won't tolerate these questions. It is absolutely none of their business and you don't owe them an explanation.

Depending on the relationship, you need to decide how much energy you want to invest in educating this person. If it's a child doing it, then you need to educate them. If it's somebody you don't really know, then they need to mind their own damn business.

If we don't start standing up for ourselves, then these kinds of questions will keep coming. These people need to see that you're serious and you're not going to take their crap anymore.
