VIETNAM — A video capturing a group of Chinese tourists clearing out a fruit plate at a hotel in Vietnam has gone viral on social media. The video, shared by the Shanghaiist, shows more than a dozen mainland Chinese tourists anxiously waiting for a waitress to hand out fresh lychees. Perhaps out of irritation, the waitress did not want to hand out lychees one by one but placed the plate of lychees onto the buffet table. Once the plate is placed, the fruits were gone in just six seconds. Many Facebook users condemn their behaviour, calling them greedy and disgusting. While other users, presumably mainland Chinese users, claim that this group of tourist do not represent the entire mainland Chinese population. The video has gone viral while the memory of a group of Chinese tourists pig out on seafood buffet in Thailand is still fresh. The Thai restaurant later issued a statement, claiming that the video was filmed two years ago and there hasn't been any inappropriate behaviour in mainland Chinese tourists in these two years.
