The first of two supermoons in August graced the skies as it rose over Greece’s ancient Temple of Poseidon near Athens.

A supermoon is broadly defined as a full Moon that is closer to the Earth than normal, just 222,159 miles (357,530km) away. The Moon will be even closer on the night of August 30 – a scant 222,043 miles away. It won’t happen again until 2037, according to Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi. So don’t miss the chance to admire the Earth’s satellite (almost) close up.
