For the boss, if you don't have unlimited magic for 3 days like I got via the Chateau Romani milk, fill a bunch of bottles with potions. It's possible to completely run out in which case you are screwed. Which is another bit of bad design. But at the very least it is a hilarious fight when you go Hulk and there's not much punishment to game-overing as you can just heal up and try again with the right supplies.
