Imitation Jolene unlocks level 3 for us when we finish the Sand temple. But you are best going in when you are well prepared. The Hurricane Spin, bomb/arrow capacity increases and max health helps a lot. Plus yellow potions of course. Set aside a good chunk of time before attempting this though because it's long and you must not be reckless. Plus you can't save your progress along the way (not counting save states.) and not start from the beginning. Though I guess you could put your DS in sleep mode, assuming you have enough battery, but you "should" keep it charged for longer sessions like this. :P
