Janis Joplin born January 19, 1943 in Port Arthur (Texas) and died October 4, 1970 in Los Angeles (California) is an American singer.

Nicknamed the "Cosmic Mama" or "the queen of psychedelic soul" at the height of her career, also called "Pearl" by her friends, she first became famous in the late 1960s as a singer of psychedelic acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company and later as a solo artist with his backing bands, The Kozmic Blues Band and The Full Tilt Boogie Band.

Janis Joplin makes an impression with her vocal performances and her stage presence, "electric" for her fans. She was also an arranger, painter, dancer and musician.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Janis Joplin forty-sixth on its list of the One Hundred Greatest Artists of All Time and twenty-eighth among the One Hundred Greatest Singers of All Time.
