Turns out to be a light air drift around the infamous Cape Hatteras, but soon the southwesterlies freshen and our little ship is scudding along nicely. But that only lasts for one day and then a low pressure forms directly over me bringing variable winds, drizzle, followed by brisk headwinds. At which point I decide to invoke "wimp strategy", which is to heave to and wait for a better wind.
