Apple - Just one a day can transform your life for the better
The apple, which is a fruit with a round or slightly oval shape, thin and shiny skin, green or red in color.
Its scientific name is Malus domestica. Its pulp is juicy and can vary from creamy white to pale yellow.
There are different types of apples, each with its own flavor, texture and skin color. Some of the most popular varieties include Gala; Fuji; Argentina; Green among others. Each has a unique flavor and texture, making them suitable for different uses such as eating fresh, cooking, baking or juicing.
The apple is native to Central Asia, more precisely to the mountains of Kazakhstan. Over the centuries, the fruit has been cultivated and spread to various parts of the world, becoming one of the most popular and consumed fruits.
Some of the largest apple producers are: China: China is the world's largest producer of apples, accounting for a significant portion of global production.
In addition to China, other important apple producers are Germany, Italy, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, United States, India and Russia.
The apple is a nutritious and low-calorie fruit. A medium apple (about 150 grams) contains about 95 calories. It is also a good source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Apples are particularly rich in vitamin C and contain small amounts of vitamin B, vitamin A and vitamin E. In addition, they also contain minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron. Apples can be consumed in many ways. They can be enjoyed raw, added to salads, juices, cooked, in jellies, used in desserts, baked in pies and cakes, or even made into cider.
The apple's versatility makes it a popular ingredient in cooking. Apples can be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably in the refrigerator to increase shelf life.
They tend to stay fresh for several weeks when properly refrigerated.
It is important to note that overripe apples can release ethylene gas, which can accelerate the ripening of other nearby fruits. Therefore, apples must be stored separately from other ethylene-sensitive fruits.
The apple is often associated with the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". Although it's just a popular saying, apples are a great option for a healthy diet because of their nutritional and health benefits. Apples are an excellent source of fiber, essential vitamins and minerals.
