Göbekli Tepe was discovered in 1963 in Southeastern Anatolia (Turkey)and found to be from the Pre-Pottery Neolithic, just after the Younger Dryas period. Klaus Schmidt began investigations in 1994 which led to excavations from 1995, continuing following his death in 2014, up to the present day. Only 20% is viewable to the public and there are no plans to extend the public area as yet.
