Ukrainian commando units dealt a crushing blow to Russian forces in the trenches near Bakhmut. The attack, which was carried out by the 3rd Assault Brigade, resulted in is lost of dozens of Russian soldiers and the capture of several others. The attack began in the early morning hours, when Ukrainian commandos infiltrated the Russian trenches under cover of darkness. Once inside, they engaged the Russian forces in close-quarters combat, using hand-to-hand weapons and grenades. The fighting was fierce, but the Ukrainians eventually prevailed, forcing the Russians to retreat.
