Who was ZaSu Pitts, the girl with the funny name who raised Barbara La Marr's lovechild, starred with Joan Crawford and married a tennis player seven years her junior? ZaSu Pitts (1894-1963), the daughter of a Civil War veteran, got her start in movies thanks to Mary Pickford. Rising into drama actress territory with Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1924), ZaSu found herself inspiring Olive Oyl and running a two-woman comedy show with Thelma Todd. Working herself to the bone, ZaSu died in 1963 from cancer.
