Oh the winter time... When everything is frozen and our trucks like to remind us how cold they are... Except when they overheat!

A few weeks ago the radiator in our 1986 Toyota pickup started leaking while out on the trail. Luckily our friend William had some radiator stop leak handy which stopped the leak and we were able to keep wheeling. What I should have done is gone home, replace the radiator and flush the cooling system. Instead I did nothing, and my suspicion is that the pellets from the stop leak worked their way into the internal cooling chambers of the engine and caused it to overheat and blow the head gasket.

Good thing we had a spare engine. The original engine from the Yeti has been at our friend Jason's since I rolled the truck last year. It was running weird after the rollover and that's why I pulled it and went with the motor that came with the new (blue) cab.

It was a good motor, relatively fresh rebuild when I got it, but it had some funny Frankenstein things as far as wiring.

In this episode I take two engines and turn them into one great engine and get the Yeti going once again.

The Yeti is a 1986 Toyota Pickup, factory 2wd with a 4x4 conversion using a 1984 4runner/pickup axle housing. He is built with 5.29 Yukon gears, lockright lockers, dual transfer cases and 37" TrXus MT's. This truck has been our adventure camping machine, highway overlander and rock crawler for nearly 3 years.
