Baseline Shift : This term describes how typography will interact with its normal baseline and how much it will deviate.

Bevel : This is a digital effect (sometimes called an emboss) that can be used as a filter or stand-alone effect to add depth to your typography or image.

Bezier Curve : A curve defined mathematically by using two-dimensional graphical applications. The curve itself is defined by four points: the initial position and the ending position (called "anchors") and two separate middle points (called "handles").

Bitmap : A bitmap defines a display space and the color for each pixel or "bit" GIFs and JPEGs are good examples.

Bleed : When color is meant to fill an entire page, designers will often add a 1/8th inch of additional coloration or background meant to extend beyond the page. This allows for micro discrepancies when a printer's trim may be slightly off by eliminating any white lines around the edges.

Blending modes : Blending separate layers in a design using the different blending modes, allows the designer to create special effects with a single image.

Blur : A tool used in Adobe Photoshop to blur a specific area on a document. This can be done in broad strokes, or with varying brushes and opacity.

BMP files : This stands for bitmap files.

Body Type : This is the main section of content and/or the typeface used to create the content.

Border : The outer edge of a design or image that forms a boundary either by decoration or a simple line.

Bounding box : A temporary digital frame used to resize or select an object within a design.

Brand Identity : The brand identity encompasses all aspects of a brand from the core beliefs, design, content, and even business culture. Think anything from a logo, to charity donations, to the branded items passed out to clients and customers.

Branding : In order for brand identity to be applied, branding itself must first take place. This means developing all the aspects that will go into the brand identity. It's a mix of many conceptual details that range from what the company stands for, the way they conduct themselves, and how their overall external look and feel fits in with all of it.

Brush Library : The different collection of brushes used in the design process. There can be as many or as little as needed.

Brush tool : This is a design tool that allows you to "paint" with various brushes on a design artboard. The brushes can be altered to accommodate various design styles.

Burn tool : A tool used to darken areas of an image that are too bright or need to fade into the background.
