Saddle Hunting Ep5 | Ascenders Pt4 - Two-way Devices | Madrock Safeguard

This is Part 4 of this mini series and I will show you how to install and ascend with a two-way mechanical device like the Madrock Safeguard. The Madrock Safeguard is a Mechanical Belay(descending) device that also allows you to ascend just like using the devices shown in Part 3.
The benefit of using a two-way device is that you can use the same device and rope to Climb(ascend) and Rappel(descend), without changing any equipment during your hunt. Although these devices are only necessary if you are rappelling as your method of descent, it can be used by One-stick, multi stick, AND SRT climbers.

There are many options when it comes to this type of device, but the most popular is the Madrock Safeguard, Petzl GriGri+, and the Beal Birdie. Being the most popular, the Madrock Safeguard is the one we will be demoing today…
