How to Replace a Porsche 928 Bumper Shock
Welcome to the GuysWithRides.com YouTube Channel, where Rudy does dumb things in his garage, so you can learn from his mistakes.
With 35 days to go before this year's 66th New Hope Auto Show running in historic Buck's County, Pennsylvania, Rudy continues documenting his progress preparing Project Risky Business, our $4,000 1985 Porsche 928S Barn Find.
When it launched in 1978, one of the most distinctive styling details of the Porsche 928 was the smoothed-in body color, urethane front and rear bumpers. The 1978 Porsche 928 was the first car to incorporate such a clean design in an age of huge bumpers mandated by the U.S. Federal 5 MPH standard.
Unfortunately, while the Urethane bumpers are very resilient to dents and dings, a minor, slow-speed hit renders the bumper shocks to a one-time-only use
Such was the case on the driver's side of Project Risky Business, our $4,000 1985 Porsche 928S Barn Find. As part of the car's front-end restoration, Rudy sourced a used pair of bumper shocks on eBay that were ten percent of the cost of a brand-new replacement unit.
In this video, Rudy removes the lights housed in the aluminum safety bumper on a Porsche 928 to gain access to the bumper shocks.
