Helianthus Annus: The common sunflower is a fantastic plant for your garden: The seeds serve as feed for birds that will gladly hang around to feed your pest insects to their young, the leaves attract leaf footed bugs, and create habitat for Assassin beetles: One of the few insect predators willing to tackle leaf footed bugs and stink bugs. Once they have served a tour in your garden at pest control, the thick woody stalks may be dried, and made into biochar to condition the soil.
