THE UNBELIEVABLE PREDICTION OF A NEW ICE AGE: MILANKOVITCH CYCLES -HD
The Milankovitch Cycles, named after the Serbian astrophysicist Milutin Milankovitch, are a set of cyclic variations in Earth's orbit around the Sun and its axial tilt, or obliquity. These cycles have a profound impact on Earth's climate and are believed to be the driving forces behind the long-term climate changes including ice ages, or glacial periods.

There are three primary components to the Milankovitch Cycles:

Eccentricity: This refers to the shape of the Earth's orbit around the Sun, which shifts from nearly circular to more elliptical over a cycle of about 100,000 years. Higher eccentricity means more variation in solar radiation received at the Earth's surface during different parts of the year.

Axial tilt (obliquity): This refers to the angle of the Earth's tilt on its axis, which oscillates between 22.1 and 24.5 degrees over a cycle of roughly 41,000 years. Greater tilt leads to more extreme seasonal variations in temperature.

Precession: This refers to the wobble of the Earth's axis of rotation, similar to the wobble of a spinning top. This cycle takes around 26,000 years. Precession changes the timing of the seasons relative to Earth's orbit.

The Milankovitch Theory, therefore, predicts periods of cooling and warming based on these cycles. When certain conditions align – a highly elliptical orbit, a high axial tilt, and the timing of winter occurring at the furthest point from the Sun – this can lead to less sunlight reaching the Earth, which over thousands of years can trigger an ice age.

However, these predictions should not lead us to disregard the impact of anthropogenic, or human-caused, climate change. While the Milankovitch Cycles operate over tens to hundreds of thousands of years, human activities are causing rapid, dramatic shifts in global temperatures and climate patterns over mere decades or centuries. Our current concern lies in mitigating these changes and understanding their short and long-term impacts on our planet.
