Theme: God’s Word warns us of false prophets and false teachers. These follow Satan and twist, distort and change the truth of God into the lie of Satan. We can only be successful in combating this by knowing the Truth of God’s Word.

“False Prophets”
16th In our series the Epistle of 2nd Peter

I. There were False Prophets in Old Testament - 2 Peter 2:1
* A. Jeremiah calls out Hananiah - Jeremiah 28:10-17
* 1. The Lord God is sovereign ruler over all the kingdoms of earth, He sets up and pulls down
* 2. The prophet who claims to speak for God but does not is playing a deadly game - Deuteronomy 18:20-22
* B. Only the truly God inspired prophets should be given our attention

II. There will be false Prophets teaching falsehood - 2 Peter 2:2-3
* A. They work secretively as wolves in sheep clothing - Mat 7:15-20
* B. Their lies will be destructive
* 1. Satan’s mode of operation - John 10:10
* 2. Destroying unity of the body, destroying faith
* C. The proclaim heresy 
* 1. They deny the essentials tenets of the Christian faith
* 2.They hold unbiblical doctrines - 1 Timothy 4:1
* D. They deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ
* 1. They will teach that He is limited, not all knowing, not omnipresent
* 2. They call Him Lord but deny those very words by their deeds - Matthew 7:20-23
* a. Jesus declares He never knew them
* b. They practice lawlessness

III. Arm Yourself with the Truth - 2 Timothy 2:15
* A. Seeking diligently to grasp and retain the truth of God’s Word
* B. Guard your intake, surround yourself with the Truth
* 1. Walk in obedience
* 2. Talk the truth
