England was put to bat first in the 5th test match. England once again played with an aggressive approach and scored runs at a quick pace. England made 283 runs in just 54.4 overs but lost all 10 wickets in the process. Australia then came into bat and both the openers put up a hard-fought performance as day one ended with 61 for 1 for the visitors.
