I’ve heard this so many times. If I had a dollar for each time, I could’ve had a million chickens.

Folks, you don’t need a rooster to get eggs. Hens naturally produce eggs. You only want a rooster if you’re going to produce your own chicks.

The sad reality for a backyard owner is they might not be allowed where you live and they cost money. Money in the sense they don’t produce eggs and eat all the feed. That’s why so many make it to “freezer camp”.

If you can afford it and it’s allowed, let it rip. I personally enjoy having several roosters and hearing them crow. They provide order to the flock and do a great job alerting when predators make an appearance.
