But might Francis be a pope even though he's a heretic? There are no “heretic popes.” This is a total absurdity, as absurd and impossible as a “square triangle” or “humanitarian serial killer.” If one is a manifest and pertinacious heretic, one is ipso facto NOT a pope. Thus Francis cannot possibly be an actual pope. See:
