(2004) Chuck, Jet and Emerald carp and rant about the latest controversy and generally speaking air their beefs with the city of Fayetteville. We were critiqued in the Fat Cat Award judging forms for over-reliance on the Speech tic, "you know", and....GUILTY. This has been an issue with a fair number of the Lemur Crew and many of us still, you know, struggle with it. But think of it this way, Bocephus: Public Access is supposed to be a forum for regular folks, not restricted to great orators. And as regular folks, we doubled down on that! Happy? No? Oh well....
Not the WORST episode of TAOTL ever produced but emblematic of a lot of what was wrong with the Lemuric Tin Age. We spent overt amounts of time making our case and unloading our baggage for all of Fayetteville to see, and Jet afterwards drew comparisons to the later Lenny Bruce concerts, where he spent much of them going over transcripts from his trial....and he wasn't wrong. I cite the "Tin Age" as running from the second half of '04 to early '06. It's characterized by a lot of these long, rambling shows---the VDA imploded as a movement writ large, Amy McMillan came and went, I focused on local activism for good or ill (usually ill), Shannon decided she wanted to distance herself from TAOTL and focus more on her talk show, Jet left town and the Tin Age slowly sputtered to a close. In 2006 Liz Essex formally became a cast regular, Heather Drain emerged and a whole new "Diamond Age" began for the show.
If there's anything I can say now, the City of Fayetteville still values aesthetics over what happens to human beings, so I guess it's still relevant in that sense.
