Hi, it’s Patrik Hutzel from intensivecarehotline.com with another quick tip for families in intensive care.
Today is not so much a tip, it’s more of a testimonial again that I want to read out after working with a client one-on-one in the last few days.
So, it’s basically an email from the client that we worked with 1:1 predominantly over the phone. We’ve had meetings with intensive care teams. The situation was basically like many other situations we encounter that ICU wanted to prematurely withdraw treatment without patient or family consent and that is illegal and that could be perceived as murder.
That is pretty much what we said to the intensive care team saying, “Look, what you’re doing here is highly unethical”, and they were using words, not even withdrawal of treatment. They were also using words like, “We are withdrawing care.” Well, that really tells everyone the state of mind that this particular hospital is in their withdrawing care.
Well, no one should ever withdraw care because you can withdraw treatment, but one should never withdraw care. There’s a big difference there and it’s much more than just wordplay.
