APD Officer and GSP Trooper Recover a Stolen Firearm From a Juvenile After a Brief Foot Chase

On July 25th, 2023, at approximately 1:41PM, the Atlanta Police Department, while working in conjunction with Georgia State Patrol, observe a juvenile male walking in the roadway. When the juvenile sees police, he places his hand over his waistband, where officers can see the outline of what appears to be a handgun.

The officers exit their patrol vehicle and give verbal commands to the juvenile to stop, however, the juvenile flees from the officers and into the belt line. A brief foot chase ensues, but eventually, officers can catch up to the juvenile and place him into custody without issue.

Additionally, the firearm that was initially inside the juvenile's waistband was recovered in a bush nearby. Officers confirmed that the Shadow Systems 9 mm handgun was stolen from a vehicle in Atlanta on April 7th, 2023.

The male juvenile who is 17 years of age was charged with Crossing a Roadway without using a Crosswalk (40-6-92), Obstruction (O.C.G.A. 16-10-24), Theft By Receiving Stolen Property (O.C.G.A. 16-8-7), and Possession of a Firearm (Under the Age of 18) (O.C.G.A. 16-11-132).
