One big red flag on seeing place for first time: a sharpened hoe with 9 foot pole on rack outside. Advised to carry that or a gun at all times during warm seasons. Had my first encounter with a rattler already this year but out in the field junk piles. Usual disclaimers: Prairie Rattlesnakes can kill but damn, 99% of all encounters last year were surprises where they could likely have bitten me if they preferred vs warning/fleeing. Out of 11 or so (lost count), only 1 had to be dispatched as too close to cabin, refused to leave and almost got me twice by moving to coil up near wheelbarrow, etc. Like a moving land mine; I could barely make it out from its cammo when knowing where the hell it was. Risk was too great but otherwise appreciate the warnings.
